It was quite a shock yesterday to learn that Madonna’s Ray of Light album is now twenty years old; where have all those years gone? I was twenty-four then; in many ways, I still feel that age, as if I’m somehow stuck in 1998. If anything, it feels more like a decade ago, not two decades.
Here are the albums I was listening to twenty years ago. Did you have any of these?
Air – Moon Safari
Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Madonna – Ray of Light
Fat Boy Slim – You’ve come a long way, baby
Saint Etienne – Good Humor
R.E.M. – Up
Is hard to believe it has been 20 years. I think I checked out Madonna’s “Ray of Light” from the library on cassette tape when it came out. I remember going out to nightclubs sometimes that year and songs like Will Smith “Getting Jiggy With It”, “If You Wanna Be My Lover” by the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys telling us they were back with “Everybody” blaring so loud it was hard to have a conversation but did have some good times with friends anyway.

ha ha ha! The only two albums I still own from this list are Ray of Light and The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. i guess I grew tired of the others and either sold them or gave them away.

I sold all my CDs or gave them to charity over 10 years ago! iTunes took over my life and now it is Spotify 🙂

we still have shelves full of CDs, but my wife has introduced me to Tidal, which is the main way I listen to music at home now. However, in the car, CDs still rule…

OHMYGOD! Love so many of these albums. Especially Lauryn Hill and Madonna. That Lauryn Hill album was the 90s version of “dropping the mic”
