When people ask What do you do? I have a new response; I’m mostly a stay-at-home-dad.
I say mostly a stay-at-home-dad because, although that is the main thing I do, it is not the only thing.
Sure, I do most of the cooking, all the dirty washing, the scrubbing of the oven, the shower and the toilet…y’know, all the sexy jobs. I keep the children’s clothes in some kind of order, and make sure they have everything they need for school each morning.
I make the beds, do the dishes… which reminds me of that Joan Rivers joke:
I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again.
Until I can write witty jokes like that, here are the other things I do, beyond being someone’s dad:
I work part-time in an academic library.
I’m the publicity officer for the local Scouts group.
I’m a councillor on our Parish Council.
I run a Little Free Library book exchange in our village.
I’m trying to write a novel and a comedy script, and y’know, doing this blogging thing.
Right then. I better be getting back to making those beds….because unlike Joan Rivers, I don’t believe in doing it once every six months. No, once a year is more than enough…
