And the nominees are…

What’s going on then?

I’ve been nominated for an award!

What, for this blog?

No, don’t be silly, it’s not for blogging… I’m not that good.

No, you’re not. Well, what’s it for then?

I have been nominated for an award at work.

I didn’t know you had a job.

Of course I have a job. I work part time in an academic library. Don’t you know anything about me?

Not really, no. I just thought you were some silly blogger on the internet.

I have a real life, too, not just writing stuff online, thank you very much.

OK. So, what have you been nominated for, exactly?

I’m glad you asked! It’s a People Award, in the category of Connectedness.

Connected-what-now?

Connectedness! I’ve been nominated for my efforts to connect people.

People, waiting to be connected

You mean like setting them up on dates?

No. My place of work is spread across many different sites, and I have been, in my own small way, trying to improve the connections between people at these different locations.

How do you do that, then?

I write articles in our weekly newsletter, with the aim of making it a bit more personable, rather than being too corporate. To call it a magazine would not quite be accurate, but the word newsletter conjures up images of two pieces of A4 paper stapled together; it is a digital newsletter, and a bit more interesting than it sounds.

I see. Well, congratulations, I suppose…

Thank you very much! I have no idea who the other nominees are, and I do not really expect to win, but it is very nice to be nominated, and to receive recognition for my efforts.

Yes, yes, we’ve heard enough now. Good luck and everything, but do go away, you’re getting boring…

Oh. Erm, thanks. Thanks a lot, mate.

You’re welcome.

  1. Thanks for finding me. 🙂 This post reminds me of the goofy e-cards and random trinkets my online school sends me. “It’s been seven years and you’re still teaching for us! Yay! Here, have a little crystal block with our logo in it.” Oh goody.
