This week I’m stuck in a 90’s time loop, getting groovy in the car with Deee-lite.
Last year I wrote this about Deee-lite’s first album, World Clique:
I turned sixteen in 1990, and Groove is in the heart was played everywhere that year, at every party, and on the radio all the time; it was inescapable. I cannot now remember what made me buy this album; was it a review in a magazine, or was I just feeling adventurous that day I walked into the shop? Maybe I was given it for Christmas? Regardless of how I got it, World Clique whisked me away on a musical journey that was all neon lights, cosmic beats and fun lyrics, and I loved every minute of it. The best thing is, that it still sounds just as fresh today.
Of course, there’s no denying that Groove Is In The Heart is their most famous song, but there’s so much more to them than that.
Did you know they released three albums? World Clique in 1990, Infinity Within in 1992, and Dewdrops in the Garden in 1994. Each of these albums is packed with irresistible beats, hooks and grooves, all mixed together with their own unique twist of psychedelic, neon-lit, dance floor, New York sounds.
