Well it happened – I’ve been furloughed

I had the phone call from my manager Friday afternoon.

From Monday I am no longer required to work.

I’m lucky –  I will still be on full pay.

My employers will pay 20% of my salary, and the government will pay 80%.

I work as a part-time, term-time only learning support assistant in a college of further education.

The furlough scheme will help the college survive, and I have been reassured my job is secure.

Who knows when we will go back to work?

The great thing about being furloughed is that now I can give my full attention to my children’s home learning instead of trying to juggle helping them while also doing my own job too, with my laptop in one hand and their school work in another.

So, life will be much easier, and I will be a better dad.

I will miss the online interaction with my colleagues, though.

Have you been furloughed? What has your experience been?
