To distract myself from the stresses of 2021 (I know…already…) I have been rereading Carrie Fisher’s series of memoirs.

You could say I’m escaping into her crazy world as a distraction from our crazy world, but actually Carrie Fisher is the internal voice we all need to hear right now.
I might as well be saying Help me, Carrie Fisher, you’re my only hope.
So, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Carrie Fisher auditioned for the role of a space princess in some low budget sci-fi movie.

In The Princess Diarist, Carrie Fisher reflects on that time in her life when, despite being Debbie Reynolds’ daughter, she was still relatively unknown as an actress and was actually attending drama school in London.
She recounts the audition process, and shares journal entries she had written during the filming of Star Wars.
The major revelation is the relationship she had with Harrison Ford, but to me that’s the least interesting thing here. I just enjoy hearing her voice, and that way in which she so openly dissects her life and shares her experiences, with such humour and insight.
Sample quote: I had never been Princess Leia before and now I would be her forever.
Carrie Fisher was an amazing writer and I miss her.
