Weekly Highlights #12

What have I been up to around here this week? Read on to find out!

This week I finished re-reading Carrie Fisher’s trilogy of memoirs, in which she dissects and analyses her experiences of fame, alcoholism, drug addiction, mental health and, of course, as an an actress playing one of the most well-known space princesses of all time.

With plenty of humour and witticisms, you really do get inside her head as she details her life as a celebrity, with entertaining anecdotes, revealing behind-the-scenes stories and her descriptions of being bipolar, all done with an openness and honesty which is as extraordinary as it is breathtaking.

I’m also re-reading A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. I read it just a few months ago but it is so good that I’m reading it again. It also just won Blackwell’s Book of the Year, and if that doesn’t tempt you to read it, then I don’t know what will.

Yes, it is a children’s book, but everyone should read this, no matter your age. It is written from the perspective of an autistic girl, Addie, who learns about witch trials that were held in her village long ago. Believe the hype.

The soundtrack to this week, and believe me when I say that I never thought I would utter these words, has been Mariah Carey 1990’s club remixes. Yes, I have a Mariah playlist now, which is, frankly, shocking.

However, those 90’s club remixes have been a very good kitchen soundtrack indeed. We’re talking remixes by Shep Pettibone, David Morales and C+C Music Factory. Classics of the genre!

What else did I do this week? Oh yeah, that’s right… I offered you another glimpse at my bruised and battered balls. Here’s a witty reflection upon my vasectomy. Enjoy!
