F is for Foxbase Alpha.
Saint Etienne’s debut album still sounds fresh today, thirty years after it was released in 1991.
There was nothing else around that sounded like this: it was somehow retro and modern, and effortlessly cool.
Foxbase Alpha is most definitely an indie record but it also has elements of pop, sounding like a summer soundtrack of carefree days in London.
