A to Z Best 90s Albums: Foxbase Alpha

F is for Foxbase Alpha.

Saint Etienne’s debut album still sounds fresh today, thirty years after it was released in 1991.

There was nothing else around that sounded like this: it was somehow retro and modern, and effortlessly cool.

Foxbase Alpha is most definitely an indie record but it also has elements of pop, sounding like a summer soundtrack of carefree days in London.

For further reading check out the story behind the album at Vice magazine.

The US version of the album included this cover of Kiss and Make Up, and the tracklisting has changed over the years with a few re-issues and anniversary editions.
