How to describe this album? Electronica, samples, melancholic, emotive.
Play was everywhere in 1999; multiple hit singles and it seemed like every track was used in TV commercials.
It went multi-platinum, but not everyone was a fan, as this article on Fact Mag testifies.
The album relies heavily on samples, for example, listen to Natural Blues below, and then the original song by Vera Hall called Trouble So Hard.
I loved this album at the time but never play it now (no pun intended). It suffered from over-exposure, which is difficult to recover from.
