I think I’ve lost my reading mojo.
Just like my previous book, The Madness of Grief, I’ve given up on Intimacy at the half-way point.
Kureishi tells the tale of a middle-aged, middle-class man who is struggling with the monotony of monogamy and family life with two young children. He hankers after the lifestyle that one of his single peers has, with a seemingly endless string of new, younger lovers.
Frankly, it’s all a bit boring, and I don’t have time for this character’s selfish desires. I also really struggled with the fact that this book has no chapters, so there’s never a natural place to pause.
I suppose did find a pause, though, by giving up.
What will I read next? Will I ever finish a whole book again? Stay tuned to find out!
